Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment to an Accessible Website

PolyMAT is dedicated to ensuring that our website (www.polymat.co.uk) is accessible to all users, regardless of technology, ability, or individual needs. Our site is supported by e4education (part of Juniper Education), and we continually work to provide an inclusive, user-friendly online experience.

What We Are Doing Well

We are proud of the accessibility features already in place across our website, including:

  • Text alternatives for new images and thumbnails.
  • Discernible text added to homepage button links (updated January 2025).
  • Alt text is added to images across the main pages and the latest news articles.
  • Logical and consistent navigation structures to support ease of use.
  • Keyboard navigation support for users who do not use a mouse.
  • Adjustable font sizes to improve readability.
  • Clear heading and landmark structures across most pages.
  • Improved colour contrast to support users with visual impairments.

These features help ensure that our content is perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for a wide range of users.

recent improvements 2025

Text Accessibility

  • Implemented proper heading styles to structure content, making it easier for screen readers to identify sections.
  • Ensured text is broken into clear sections with descriptive titles.
  • Adopted pre-set bullet and numbered list styles for better navigation and screen reader compatibility (avoiding custom symbols or dashes).
  • We avoid using bold styling alone for titles or key information, as this can cause issues for users navigating the site with screen readers.

Image Accessibility

  • Slideshow images are marked as decorative by the website provider, so they do not interfere with screen readers.
  • Added alt text to content images across website pages and news articles.
  • Ensured any text appearing on images is also included in the page content.
  • News and blog thumbnails now have custom artwork and alt text for better accessibility.

Video Accessibility

  • Videos are hosted on YouTube, which provides captioning and accessibility tools.
  • Embedded videos maintain accessibility features through the YouTube platform.

Link Accessibility

  • Links are now descriptive and specific (e.g., “Year 9 Options Booklet PDF”) rather than generic phrases like “click here” or “read more.”
  • Avoided using raw URLs as link text.

Table Accessibility

  • Styled tables with header rows or columns for screen reader compatibility.

Colour Accessibility

  • Website uses pre-set colour schemes with sufficient contrast for readability.
  • No manual colour changes allowed in content editing, ensuring consistency and compliance.

Accessibility standards we follow

Our website has been developed in line with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, with an aim for AAA standard wherever possible. We also ensure compliance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

WCAG principles ensure content is:

  • Perceivable – presented in ways all users can access
  • Operable – navigable and usable for everyone
  • Understandable – clear and predictable
  • Robust – compatible with assistive technologies

Areas we are working to improve

While we strive for full accessibility, we recognise that some areas of our website are not yet fully compliant. These include:

  • Some linked external websites may not be accessible.
  • Some older links or buttons may lack discernible text.
  • Some images of text are still in use.
  • The map on our Contact Us page has limited magnification.
  • A ‘skip to content’ link is not currently available.
  • Some older PDF or Word documents may not be screen‑reader friendly.
  • Certain heading structures may not follow a logical order.
  • Some decorative images may not be correctly marked.
  • Some link text may not be sufficiently descriptive.
  • Older images may not yet have alt text (scheduled for review).

If any of these issues prevent you from accessing information, please contact us and we will provide the content in an alternative format.

We are continually working to improve the accessibility of our website. Our ongoing efforts include:

  • Enhancing screen reader compatibility: Our website has been built to work with screen readers, and we continue to identify and address areas for improvement in collaboration with our website provider.
  • Regular reviews and audits: We carry out periodic accessibility checks to ensure our site remains compliant and user‑friendly.
  • Acting on user feedback: We welcome feedback from visitors and use it to guide future accessibility improvements.
  • Staying up to date: We monitor evolving accessibility standards and best practice to ensure our website continues to meet the needs of all users.

reporting accessibility issues

If you encounter any accessibility barriers, we welcome your feedback. To help us resolve issues quickly, please include:

  • The page URL or title
  • A description of the problem
  • The device, browser, or software you are using

Contact us: enquiries@woolwichpoly.co.uk

We aim to respond promptly and supportively to all accessibility enquiries.

Enforcement Procedure

If you are not satisfied with how we respond to your accessibility concern, you may contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS), who oversee the enforcement of the accessibility regulations on behalf of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).

Compliance Status

Our website is partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 due to the non‑accessible content listed above and because secondary schools are partially exempt from some requirements. This exemption does not apply to essential services such as Free School Meal applications, which must be fully accessible.

We believe we currently meet the government’s accessibility requirements and remain committed to ongoing improvement.

Third‑Party Content

Our website may link to external platforms or content. While we aim to link only to accessible resources, we cannot guarantee the accessibility of third‑party websites.

We review this statement at least annually to ensure it reflects our current accessibility status and any updates made to the site.
