Discover more about the London Trust Leaders Network (LTLN) and their latest event. Tim Plumb, our CEO at PolyMAT, is a proud co-founder of LTLN.

On Tuesday, March 4th, we held our third London Trust Leaders’ Network (LTLN) meeting at St Paul’s Way Secondary School in Bow.

The LTLN was established by Gill Kemp, CEO of University Schools Trust; Matthew Kleiner-Mann, CEO of The Ivy Learning Trust; Tim Plumb, CEO of PolyMAT and Sian John, Chief Talent Officer at E-ACT.

This network plays a crucial role in connecting trust leaders with the Department for Education (DfE). The DfE Regional Director and her team dedicate themselves to attending our three annual meetings, where they share their priorities and engage with trust leaders both as a group and individually. Each meeting features priority updates from the Regional Director and her team, opportunities for questions and networking with DfE colleagues, as well as updates from Ofsted, the CST, and other important sector partners. This presents an invaluable opportunity to support the sector, entirely free of charge!

The event took place at St Paul’s Way Secondary School in Bow, one of Gill Kemp’s schools. We began the day with a welcome breakfast in the main foyer before transitioning to the lecture theatre for the sessions. Gill and Tim greeted everyone and outlined the day's agenda, introducing our first speaker, Claire Burton, the London Regional Director from the Regions Group at the DfE. Following this, our guests broke into smaller groups to interact with members of Claire’s team. We then regrouped for a presentation by Leora Cruddas, CEO of CST, followed by insights from Mark Emmerson of London Bridge The Gap.

We enjoyed a delightful break with refreshments before returning to the lecture theatre for an online call with John Kennedy. Throughout the day, there were also multiple opportunities for Q&A sessions and discussions.

Overall, it was a remarkable event, and we were delighted to welcome so many trust leaders from across London.

We look forward to our next gathering on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025.

Catch all the highlights from the event in our latest video! 🎥✨ Watch it now!

International Women's Day (IWD) 2025 will be celebrated on 8th March 2025.

This year's theme is "Accelerate Action", emphasising the need for swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality. The campaign calls for increased momentum in addressing systemic barriers and biases that women face in both personal and professional spheres.

The theme highlights the importance of supporting organisations and groups that work tirelessly to advance women's rights and empowerment. It encourages everyone to take action in their daily lives by challenging stereotypes, celebrating women's achievements, and promoting gender equality.

Additionally, 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a significant milestone in the global pursuit of gender equality. This year's celebrations will focus on advancing women's and girls' rights, promoting gender equality, and fostering empowerment through inclusive access to education, employment, and leadership opportunities.

  • Mr Twinley, Trust Premises Manager, is sadly retiring after an impressive 46 years

    Published 28/02/25

Mr Twinley, our much admired Trust Premises Manager, is sadly (for us) retiring after 46 years of dedication and wisdom, from which we have greatly benefited.

‘Mr Twinley has been here in all weathers and through all builds and changes to this ever-morphing building and has been a great pilot through the choppiness of change, if not a bedrock of stability to mix metaphors. For this reason, he will be greatly missed but we all wish him the most fulfilling of retirements.’ - Mr T Lawrence - Headteacher of Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys

This morning, we hosted a small gathering in honour of Mr Twinley. Our fantastic catering team prepared the food for the event, featuring some delightful homemade cakes! It was just a small gesture of appreciation as several staff members shared some heartfelt words about Mr Twinley.

Thank you for your years of dedication and the difference you've made, enjoy your retirement.

Take a look at these photos from 2003 showcasing the transformation of Waterfield School into Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys

BHP Architects were selected by the London Borough of Greenwich to design and oversee the construction and renovation of the Waterfield School site in Thamesmead, facilitating the relocation of the Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys. This project commenced in January 2002 and reached completion by January 2003.

The original open-plan building, structured on a square nine-meter grid with internal courtyards, was transformed into enclosed classrooms. Additionally, a new two-story detached extension was connected to the main school via a 'flying' bridge link.

Take a look at these photographs - it's hard to believe they were captured 22 years ago, time flies!

How closely are our schools situated within the trust?

For those who may not know, PolyMAT is located in South East London, specifically in the borough of Greenwich, Thamesmead. We currently serve around 3,600 students in our local community and are eager to expand further, creating exceptional educational opportunities.

As a cross-phase Trust, we aim to design the learning journey “through the eyes of the child,” minimising disruptions during transitions between educational phases.

We are dedicated to delivering an outstanding education to children of all ages in Thamesmead and the surrounding areas, with a strong focus on helping our students achieve the best possible outcomes in line with our vision of ‘Success for Everyone.’

At present, our schools are situated across four sites. If you were to walk from Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys to Bannockburn Primary School on Church Manor Way, it would take approximately 56 minutes to visit each school along the route. Driving this route would take around 11 minutes, while cycling would take about 13 minutes.

Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls is recognised as the top-performing girls' school in Greenwich!

Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls has just received wonderful news: our recent GCSE results rank amongst the highest in the borough of Greenwich, making us the top-performing girls' school in the area.

To celebrate this fantastic achievement, we held a ‘sparkle up’ day on Friday 14th February. The school was also adorned with glittery banners created for the occasion. Staff gathered during break time to toast with a glass of bubbly Shloer and enjoy a glittery cupcake.

Students were encouraged to add a touch of sparkle to their usual uniforms with glittery makeup, shimmering hair accessories, jewellery, and individual clothing items. The school was truly shining on Friday!

We are so proud of every single member of our school community.

    PolyMAT supporting LGBT+ History Month

    Published 18/02/25

Over the past 20 years, since the first UK LGBT+ History Month in 2005, we have highlighted the incredible things LGBT+ people in all our diversity have achieved throughout history in all areas of life.

    LGBT+ History Month 2025

    LGBT+ History Month Quiz

Schools Poetry Competition - Deadline 28th February 2025

Over the past 50 years Schools OUT have worked to #educateOUTprejudice and usualise LGBT+ lives, creating learning environments where all LGBT+ people feel safe, seen, and supported; which is why we founded UK LGBT+ History Month following the repeal of Section 28 to be a dedicated space to celebrate our rich and diverse history, herstory, theirstory. This year it is even more important that we:

    • Claim our past
    • Celebrate our present
    • Create our future

    Activism and Social Change

Throughout history LGBT+ people have been activists and helped shape and create social change, advancing society for everyone using many different approaches to activism:

    • Protests and rallies
    • Campaigns – letter writing and social media
    • Boycotts and direct action
    • Collaboration and education
    • Art and music
    • Literature and poetry
    • Theatre, film, comedy and dance
    • Crafts from banners to zines
    • Living openly

Each year we choose five LGBT+ historical figures in line with the theme to highlight. This year we have chosen five LGBT+ people who have created social change from across the centuries in progressing change for women, the environment, housing, nuclear disarmament, preserving heritage, abolition of the slave trade, and immigration, among many other causes.

The 2025 LGBT+ Historical Figures are: Octavia Hill, Ivor Cummings, Annie Kenney, Charlie Kiss, and Olaudah Equiano.

The official 2025 UK LGBT+ History Month badge was designed by Emily, a 12-year-old pupil from St Anthony’s Girls’ Catholic Academy in Sunderland who was the winner of our Schools badge competition. Buy your badge here.

“I was inspired to draw the megaphone because everyone deserves to be heard and sometimes to be heard you need help to be loud. The colours coming out of the megaphone were the LGBT+ flag, to represent everyone and how we need to be loud about the LGBT+ community and its history. It was important to support the community even if you aren’t a part of it, it is important to be an ally and to be kind. I made the badge a different shape to make it stand out and raise more awareness. I feel my badge means a kit because I can raise awareness and I feel like I have made a difference so I am very happy!”
